This year we have trimmed down the AWANA schedule to make room for “EPIC Family Night”, which will take place the first Wed. of every month. EPIC stands for Equipping Parents to Influence their Children. We believe that we should not only make the time we have with kids at church the best it can be but that we must also partner with parents to make the time they have with their kids the best it can be. When the church and family work together to spiritually form children, a much greater legacy will be passed on.
What is something epic you have done or want to do in your lifetime? And what can we do to get those epic things to happen? Epic things are not the everyday ordinary things that we do. Rather they are rare or once in a lifetime events that are bigger than life. Yet most of the time epic things don’t just happen; they take lots of planning, thought, practice, money, patience and some luck. Some epic things may be meeting your favorite celebrity, attending your favorite sports final game with your team winning a closely fought battle, landing on the moon, traveling to a special part of the world, the things people accomplish at the XGames, etc.
Of course being a Christian I know that the most epic thing will be to spend eternity with Jesus. When we work together to spiritually form children so that they can live with Jesus, we leave a vibrant long-term legacy! Now that’s epic! That is why I am so excited to begin EPIC family nights. EPIC is not another children’s ministry night, it’s an entire family night that will help each family plan, think, practice and implement everyday life that includes their faith so that children can be spiritually formed and one day the most epic thing will happen – we will live with Jesus!
